Treatment of a Rare Congenital External Carotid Arteriovenous Fistula with Transcatheter Coil Embolization

چکیده
Congenital arteriovenous communications involving the external carotid artery and jugular veins are rare. We report a 4-year-old girl with a history of an abnormal audible sound in the right ear during sleep. Physical examination revealed a carotid bruit, thrill and a pulsatile mass in the right neck. A simple congenital right external carotid-jugular arteriovenous fistula was confirmed and successfully treated by coil embolization. The abnormal sound and clinical symptoms disappeared after the procedure without complications. Our report reminds readers that congenital external carotid arteriovenous fistula is a rare disease with unique clinical manifestation and can be effectively treated with transcatheter coil embolization.

Rare Pulsatile Tinnitus in Children Treated with Transcatheter Coil Embolization: A Case Report
Tinnitus is the perception of abnormal ear or head noises without any external sounds. The noises might be high pitched or comprise ringing, clicking, or buzzing. Pulsatile tinnitus is a kind of rhythmical tinnitus that usually occurs at the same rate as the heartbeat and is rare in children. Herein, we present a 4-year-old girl who had an abnormal audible sound in the right ear during sleep fo...
متن کاملTranscatheter coil embolization for coronary and pulmonary arteriovenous malformations
C oronary artery fistulas (CAFs) and pulmonary arteriovenous malformations (PAVMs) are relatively rare but clinically important cardiovascular abnormalities that may require percutaneous treatment. In most patients, the current preferred treatment for both lesions is transcatheter embolization using techniques that are well established in these two conditions. We present a review of CAF and PAV...
متن کاملTranscatheter obliteration of a cerebellar arteriovenous fistula with platinum coils.
A single-hole arteriovenous fistula (A VF) consists of a solitary abnormal communication between an artery and a vein without an intervening capillary network. An AVF must be distinguished from an arteriovenous malformation (A VM), which is composed of a complex network of arteriovenous connections (nidus or core). Most AVFs develop as a result of trauma; those between the internal carotid arte...
متن کاملUsefulness of dynamic renal scintigraphy in a patient with renal arteriovenous fistula treated by transcatheter embolization.
Tc-99m-DTPA renal scintigraphy was performed before and after transcatheter coil embolization in a patient with renal arteriovenous fistula (AVF). Before embolization, scintigraphy showed a characteristic accumulation pattern compatible with the hemodynamics of an aneurysmal type of AVF in the vascular phase. After embolization, the effects of treatment, such as a change in the split renal func...
متن کاملIntercavernous sinus dural arteriovenous fistula treated with transvenous coil embolization: a case report.
The blood supply to the region of the cavernous sinus is provided by interconnecting branches of the internal and external carotid arteries, and it is from these vessels that dural arteriovenous fistulas (DAVFs) arise. It is very rare that DAVFs are located at the intercavernous sinuses region; in this case, a proper localization of the fistulous site is of extreme importance in order to succes...
